Happy Birthday Kari!!!

By Steve Ferkau

I know I’m luckier than most. And I know I’m luckier than most in so many ways… I’ve lead an amazing life. And, in this little game of life, I may have been given a tough hand to play – but I was also given so much support – so many people to help me play that hand, and even slip me an ace now and then when it looked like I was about to fold…

And then I got an incredible gift. This is a post about a note, on her birthday, to the girl who gave me that gift…

Please join My Angel Foundation on Saturday, May 2, 2009, for the 2nd Annual C.A.R.E. 5K & 10K Run and Walk for Organ Donor Awareness in Waukee, Iowa, to spread awareness about the importance of organ and tissue donation by commemorating the lives of organ and tissue donors, celebrating the lives of organ and tissue recipients, and recognizing the lives of those waiting for a lifesaving transplant!

Read a couple of the many testimonials My Angel Foundation received after the 2008 C.A.R.E. 5K & 10K Run and Walk...

"Thank you for organizing a wonderful event, I had a wonderful time participating in the CARE race yesterday. You are doing a great job bringing together individuals who understand the fragility of life through the death of a loved one, or the gift of organs. For me personally, it was a good feeling to be able to run a 10K for my late boyfriend. I know he was cheering for me the whole time, filling me with strength. Having never run a 10K before I definitely did better than I had anticipated! Again, thank you." -- Jess S

Great job on the 5k race. Even with the rain, our team had a great time." -- Gina S.

That’s Kari…

By Steve Ferkau

On February 22, my team – named in honor of my donor – took the stairs 94 floors to the top of the John Hancock Center. This is a post of some of the highlights of that event… It’s about some of the transplant professionals who climbed with me… It’s about some of Kari’s friends who climbed with me… It’s about another chick with new lungs who has wanted to do this for a long time, and finished next to me… And it’s about recognition – and why I do what I do…

It's Kind of Like - Wow:

By Melissa S.

The FDA steps in to help out NFL star of the Chicago Bears when his daughter is listed for a heart transplant. An experimental Berlin Heart allowed her to wait for her perfect match. Today she is doing everything a normal 9 month old does, thanks to the gift of life.
